Can you answer that question? And no, please stop yourself before you
say I’m ___________ and state whatever your name is, because that isn’t
what I’m trying to ask. I’m not trying to ask who you are in front of
your friends, family, acquaintances, enemies, or strangers, because we
will act different to every single person we meet. I’m asking who are
you when you finally put down those masks you naturally put on to
deceive everyone you face each day. Who are you when you are in deep thought finally putting yourself vulnerable because you’re in deep solidarity?
Who are you when you finally your true self? Are you a person whose
in a blink of giving up after being scarred by life’s tribulations when
you take of your mask that makes you seem courageous and fearless? Are
you a person whose heart is broken and fragile beneath a mask of a smile
so no one knows the pain you truly feel? Are you a philosopher when
you’re no longer hidden allowing a million thoughts race through your
mind, only wearing a mask because you fear that you’ll be ridiculed and
humiliated if others knew your true self. Are you a are person who is
missing people of your past who puts on an intimidating mask to push
people away so you don’t get even hurt by someone else leaving your
life? Are you a person who is completely a stranger to the person you pretend to be when all you’re masks are on?
Who are you when you are yourself? And who is everyone else…the
people you love, the people you hate, the people you hardly know when
their masks are off and are themselves and vulnerable? Could it be that
everyone is more similar then we can even imagine..or could it be that
people are even more brilliant, more scared, more courageous, more
strong, more sad, more pained, more happy, more amazing then just meets
the eye? Tell me, who are you?
